Scheduling Appointments in Our Practice

We know you have many choices when choosing a pediatric dentist in San Diego so thank you for choosing us. We have made requesting an appointment a simple process via phone or our website. As we make every effort to find an appointment time that fits your busy schedule, please remember appointed times are reserved exclusively for each patient.

We ask you to provide a 48 hour notice in the event of a cancellation and we will waive any cancellation fee. Late arrivals and/or missed appointments will result in dismissal and fees. We want to help minimize school absences and provide a great experience for your child.

Children under 5 years of age will be scheduled during morning hours only. When the child enters 1st grade, he/she will have access to after-school appointments. Excused absence notes can be provided for parent or child.

All restorative (fillings, crowns, extractions, etc.) procedures are scheduled in the morning. Children are more prepared and better tolerated dental treatment when fresh in the morning. They also can manage fasting instruction easier when seen earlier in the day.

Dental Insurance

We are very knowledgeable about most of the dental insurance offered in our area. We help by estimating your coverage to the best of our ability and submitting the insurance claim on your behalf. We are proud that our practice accepts nearly all PPO insurance policies; and in providing the highest level of care with the least amount of restrictions placed on our pediatric dentist in San Diego and staff in serving our patients.  We do NOT typically have contracts with insurance companies.

Financing & Payment Plans:

We do offer health care financing through Care Credit. This program requires an application and becomes a contract between you and the financing partner. Click on the link for more information:

Commonly Asked Insurance Questions:

HMO – The HMO insurance typically assigns you to a dentist. These are general dentists who are paid per head to manage a large number of patients. If you have an HMO plan, of course still consider our office, but you would not be able to receive any benefits.

PPO – The PPO insurances typically allow you to go to any dentist, within or outside your network and will cover a portion of the work that you get done. As long as your pediatric dentist in San Diego is willing to work and submit to the PPO policy, you can see a pediatric specialist rather than an assigned general dentist, but the dollar amount that they cover may vary.

Comparing medical and dental benefits is like apples and oranges. Dental benefits were never intended to cover the full cost of your oral health needs. A dental procedure, even a rather large one, will not usually have such a financial impact on someone, as would most major medical procedures. Therefore, dental insurances have much lower premiums and are considered a supplemental assistance toward dental costs.

Dental benefits are a contract between your insurance and employer to recruit highly qualified adult employees. Since this contract does not consider your child’s needs or your preferred dentist in the defining of your benefits, it many times does not cover the entire fee associated with your child’s needed procedures.

Please do not hesitate to call our office or email us at staff@scrippspediatricdentistry.com if you have further questions or want to discuss your specific insurance situation.
